September 18, 2009 - Assistant Principal in New York Charged with DUI

An assistant principal at a New York school allegedly drove while intoxicated with her 10-month-old son in the car, police say.

The New York Daily News reported Friday that police arrested Melonie Lendor, 41, in Rockland County, N.Y., Thursday after a fellow motorist noticed her car swerving on the New York State Thruway and contacted authorities.

The unidentified motorist forced Lendor, an assistant principal at Intermediate School 217 in New York, to pull over before police arrived on scene and found Lendor's infant child in a child-safety seat inside the school official's car.

It was not reported how the other motorist got Lendor to pull over.

Police said Lendor was arraigned on a felony charge of driving while intoxicated and a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child.

Records indicate Lendor was convicted of driving while intoxicated in 2004 in Dutchess County, N.Y., and also of driving while impaired in 2003 in Walden, N.Y., the Daily News said.
